The Seminars and conferences are an effective way for professional experience sharing and networking. Tax Seminars are important to create value for the stakeholders and to be familiar with the latest best practices, trends and technologies relevant to taxation. The information and experience sharing gives an insight to the problems and their best solutions enabling the participants to make better decisions in their professional life. Local and International conferences/seminars have been a regular feature of Directorate General of Training and Research (Inland Revenue). In 2005, 12 days’ Workshop of ‘Association of Tax Authorities of Islamic Countries’ (ATAIC) member countries was held on ‘Revenue Forecasting’ which remained fruitful due to knowledge shared amongst the participants. In March 2007, DOT conducted another successful International ATAIC conference of the Heads of Training Institutes (Direct Taxes). In the said conference, seven ATAIC member countries i.e. Kuwait, Malaysia, Morocco, Pakistan, Sudan, Yemen and Turkey participated. Representatives from ‘International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD) and USA (Department of Treasury) attended the conference as observers. Some of the important objectives of the conference are as under: 1. To look into the existing arrangements for training of direct tax personnel in the ATAIC group and to evaluate different options to improve the same; 2. To develop a broad consensus on the key issues involved and the best practices in this area; 3. To find out the solution to improve the low tax to GDP ratio in the member countries.
